Slovenské elektrárne, a.s. has installed capacity of 4,112 megawatts (MW). It operates 31 hydroelectric, 2 nuclear, 2 thermal and 2 photovoltaic power plants.
If you leave a kettle with power 1 000 watts turned on for one hour, it consumes 1 kilowatt-hour (kWh) of electricity. What is needed to produce this amount of energy?
Thermal power plants:
- 0,32 m3 of natural gas
- 0,28 litres of heating oil
- 0,43 kg of anthracite coal
- 1,30 kg of lignite (brown coal)
Photovoltaic power plants: Full output of 1 MW photovoltaic installastion for 3,5 seconds (at noon, assuming there are no clouds)
Hydroelectric power plants: 43,2 m3 of water falling from 10 metres hight
Nuclear power plants: 0,022 grams of natural uranium
